Made for Tots Corn Puffs recalled after listeria detection
Updated | By Nomfundo Twala
The National Consumer Commission has announced a recall of Made for Tots Corn Puffs Chicken 12g after listeria was detected in a specific production batch of the product.
According to retailer Clicks, testing showed the presence of non-pathogenic listeria, a bacteria that typically does not cause illness in humans.
However, the company indicated that although it is generally harmless, there have been rare and isolated cases where certain forms of listeria have been associated with illness.
The recall affects 1,152 units of the snack, of which 348 units had already been bought by consumers.
The product was sold through Clicks stores across South Africa, on Clicks Online, and was also distributed in Lesotho.
Consumers are advised to check their packaging for the following information:
Product: Made for Tots Corn Puffs Chicken 12g
Identifying Number: 396194
Manufacturing Date (MGF): 03.03.26
Lot Number: 6:003
Best Before (BB): 02.03.2027
Customers who have bought the item are encouraged to return it to any Clicks store. A full refund or replacement will be provided, and proof of purchase is not required.
The NCC said it would be overseeing the recall process to ensure the supplier fully complies with the Consumer Protection Act.
The NCC’s Acting Commissioner, Hardin Ratshisusu, said, “Where goods fail to meet the required standards, those goods must be removed from the shelves to minimise potential harm.”
