Madlanga commission adjourns Nku’s testimony over security concerns
The Madlanga commission has adjourned businessman, and self-proclaimed police informant, Tumelo Nku's testimony indefinitely due to serious security concerns.
The decision follows his supplementary statement after intense questioning over the 2021 Aeroton drug bust in Gauteng.
The commission's spokesperson, Jeremy Michaels, said the safety risks were significant and the inquiry was proceeding with extreme caution.
He said the format of Nku's evidence will be determined later and an in-camera process won't be ruled out.
“The commission has decided that the security implications of his testimony are of such a nature that we can’t hear his testimony now. Because the security concerns are significant. We are treating this case with absolute caution.”
Meanwhile, evidence leaders are set to present the evidence concerning suspended crime intelligence deputy Feroz Khan.
This was agreed on Wednesday, after Khan's lawyers told the commission he was in a critical condition in hospital, where he is receiving medical treatment following a shooting on Sunday.
Khan was wounded on Sunday evening, in Houghton, when the car he was travelling in was shot at by unknown gunmen.
He was set to appear before the commission on 01 July after he was several witnesses implicated him in the alleged mishandling of a multi-million rand drug bust.
