Magashule reaffirms plans to ‘voluntarily’ face ANC integrity commission
The African National Congress (ANC) secretary-general Ace Magashule has reaffirmed plans to commit himself to the party’s integrity commission amid allegations of fraud and corruption.
Last month, Magashule was charged with corruption, fraud, and money laundering for his alleged role in the Free State provincial government’s R255-million asbestos audit contract.
He was granted bail of R200 000 and is expected back in court next year.
Since then, pressure has mounted on the governing party for it to remove Magashule from its top 6.
“The NEC stressed in dealing with all of these matters of integrity and the fight against corruption that remedial action should be applied in an even-handed manner to all members at every level of the organisation,” Magashule said on Thursday.
“Any inconsistent application of the rules and the constitution of the ANC will undermine the unity of the movement. The ANC should uphold the rights of its members and protect the integrity of the movement without fear or favour.”

The party delivered the outcomes of its national executive committee meeting held earlier in the week.
Magashule said the party is the process of finalising the ‘step aside’ guidelines for members accused of wrongdoing.
The guidelines are expected to be adopted by the NEC in 2021.
“It further noted the report of the officials of its charges and the fact that the SG of the ANC has volunteered to commit himself to the integrity commission.
“The officials will process whatever outcomes of all these engagements as well as the determination of the integrity commission and accordingly report to the national executive committee,” he said.
The commission had its hands full in August when it initiated a probe into the conduct of former Gauteng Health MEC Bandile Masuku, his wife Loyiso and President Cyril Ramaphosa’s spokesperson Khusela Diko.
Bandile and Diko were suspended by the party.
