Maimane attended BOSA's first anniversary celebrations at the State Theatre in Pretoria on Saturday.

"As a humble servant of the people of this country, I want to make this declaration," Maimane said.

"Many have wondered what I've been doing, many have wondered where we've been.

"This afternoon I am here to declare that I will be running for the president of come 2024.

"This is what we are about and we're going to fight."

Maimane told supporters that the time has come to fight for South Africa.

"It is far too important for us to roll up our sleeves and get in the ring and to fight for this country, rather than be spectators sitting outside.

"I am here to invite all of us as South Africans to say now is the time get up together and build this great nation of ours."

Maimane also spoke about the social problems that face the country, including the high rate of unemployment and vowed that unemployment would be a thing of the past, if he emerges victorious.

"Many people, especially our young people worry about where their next job is going to come from - they've lost their place," Maimane said.

"I am here to tell those young people, if 70% of you cannot find a job, one day a BOSA government is coming and that government is going to build, build, build."
