Makhura given deadline to release SIU reports on Covid-19 corruption

The South African National Civic Organisation (Sanco) has given Gauteng Premier David Makhura a deadline to release the reports into alleged corruption linked to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Makhura confirmed last week that some 102 companies are being probed by the Special Investigating Unit (SIU) amid reports of widespread procurement corruption.
Sanco’s Gauteng chairperson Chris Malematja says they want to see all the reports.
"Ever since the Covid-19 there have been a lot of rumors that people are using the money that is supposed to fight the virus to enrich themselves. It came to our attention that in Gauteng, through the Department of Health, there are several corrupt activities.
"We want to deal with everything, so we wrote to the premier because we feel it is high time we get reports that have to do with fraud and corruption in the province. The public needs to know what is happening with their monies.”
Sanco has given Makhura 48 hours to produce the reports.
