Makhura weighs in on state capture
Updated | By Jacaranda FM News
Gauteng Premier David Makhura says mistakes made by the African National Congress (ANC) end up letting many Africans down.
He was speaking at the funeral of Pan Africanist (PAC) stalwart Phillip Kgosana.
"We in the ANC are in charge of government and want to make it clear today that when we make mistakes as the ANC we let many Africans down. When we don't govern properly we confirm stereotypes. When we allow corruption, when we allow state capture we send a message that Africans cannot govern and that liberation movements are inherently corrupt," Makhura said.
Makhura told mourners those who sacrificed for South Africa's liberation should be honoured, regardless of their political affiliation.
"For the first time we held a commemoration of Sharpeville with the PAC. It is also the best tribute that we pay to Kgosana, that on an occasion like this we also commit ourselves as the representative of the people of South Africa that we should honour all those who suffered and scarified regardless of which party they belonged too."
