Malema: Property owners ‘benefited from apartheid’
Updated | By Jacaranda FM News
Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) leader Julius Malema has urged South African property owners to share the land with black South Africans.
Speaking at the South African Property Owners Association (SAPOA) convention in Cape Town, Malema said many South Africans have land which they refuse to share.
"We have said to you, let us share the land because there will never be any disruption without sharing of the land. Many of you own pieces of land some of which you don’t use, yet can’t make it available for the landless masses. We had a farmer in Seshego who had a huge piece of land, it was invaded and he made contact with me. I told him the land had been idling for years, why complain when people want to use this land? He asked politely that he remain with half of the land and made another half available. This means there are many others who have large pieces of land which can be made available to our people.”

Malema told those in attendance that they directly benefited from the unjust apartheid system.
"Sitting here today are beneficiaries of a crime against humanity. You benefited from the oppression of the property-less. Today you also benefit from a democracy that was brought by the property-less, who still remain in that position as you continue to get richer. The ethical content of your success is therefore not only questionable, but it proves that you privilege profit greed over inclusive and historical reconciliation," Malema said.
He also urged property owners “to stop investing in the ANC”.
"Without the EFF and the DA, the ANC is just going to die a natural death. That's what happens to all liberation movements in the world. Liberation movements only know how to liberate people and beyond liberation they are irrelevant. They don’t know what happens after liberation and that is why every time the ANC opens its mouth, they often say, ‘they liberated us’.”
