Malema: Unions have abandoned workers
Updated | By Anastasi Mokgobu
EFF leader Julius Malema has accused labour unions of abandoning the country's workers in order to side with employers.
Malema addressed supporters at the party's Workers' Day rally in Middelburg, Mpumalanga.
“Workers must unite because divided workers are to the benefit of the employer. They like it when you are divided, it is actually the employer who divides us.
"When there is a strong union, an employer sponsors another union to divide the workers because when the workers are divided, the employer will continue to exploit our people.
"The unions in South Africa have taken the side of the employer, there is a vacuum on the side of the workers and nature doesn’t allow a vacuum."
Malema also repeated his call for government to introduce a grant for unemployed graduates.
“So many young people are unemployed, even those who are going to school, they are not sure what’s going to happen to them. They are just going to school because they are disciplined, but the future doesn’t look bright.
"Now we are calling on the government to give those who have gone to school a graduate grant. The R350 unemployment grant shouldn’t be for those who are qualified.
"Let the unemployment grant be given according to qualification so that children will go to school, they will know that going to school pays, if they don’t get a job they will get the grant."
