Mamabolo: Transport infrastructure a catalyst for economic growth
Updated | By Sibahle Motha
Gauteng Transport MEC Jacob Mamabolo believes improved transport infrastructure will serve as a catalyst for economic growth in the province.
Mamabolo said although the transport sector does not employ the majority of the province’s people, it could play a critical role in growing the economy.
“Banking services, financial services driven by massive liquidity don’t absorb the mass of people that needs jobs.
“We need an economy that is sustainale but creates jobs that pay well and is easy for people to fit in. I am arguing that transport gives us that.

“Transport is currently is not one of the leading perfromers in the economy in our province but it’s a critical one.
“As you know transport brings in a reasonably good wage and salary and gives family a good income. We need to look at transport as an alternative to the current economic sector and build a sustainable economy.”
On Tuesday, Mamabolo launched the provincial smart mobility 2030 plan.
The plan underlines the need for the provincial transport system including transport, to facilitate the efficient mobility of people.
Furthermore, the plan will incorporate the mobility of goods and services as an element for economic growth.
