Man accused of murdering EFF Tshwane leader Monica Dube abandons bail bid
The man accused of murdering EFF Tshwane Region Two Secretary Monica Dube has abandoned his bail application. The case was postponed to September as police continue investigating the fatal shooting and robbery.
The man accused of killing Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) Tshwane Region Two Secretary and Election Coordinator, Monica Dube, has abandoned his bail application.
Sipho Lucky Mahlangu (34) appeared before the Cullinan Magistrates' Court on Thursday.
Mahlangu, from Soshanguve, faces charges of murder and robbery with aggravating circumstances.
“It is alleged that during the early hours of 13 June 2026, Mahlangu and an accomplice broke into the deceased's residence in Wallmansthal through a window,” said the NPA’s Tshegofatso Makhudu.
“The pair allegedly entered her bedroom, where they shot the deceased in the head in the presence of her children. They allegedly stole her cell phone before fleeing the scene.”

Makhudu says Dube’s daughter recognised Mahlangu at a taxi rank some three weeks after her mother’s death, and alerted the police.
She alerted the police, and he was subsequently arrested by the Gauteng Political Killings Task Team.
The matter was postponed to 17 September for further investigations.
