Another national key point has come under attack while South Africans are still coming to terms with the devastating fire at Parliament in Cape Town.
Police have confirmed the arrest of a suspect in connection with damage to the Constitutional Court in Braamfontein.
The suspect was taken into custody on Wednesday.
Police spokesperson Robert Netshiunda says the man allegedly broke the windows using a hammer.
“Police have arrested a 36-year old suspect following an incident this morning, where police responded to reports of a man breaking the windows using a hammer, at the Constitutional Court buildings in Braamfontein, Johannesburg.”
Netshiunda says police fired a warning shot after the suspect continued to break the windows even after being ordered to stop.
“He has been charged with malicious damage to property."
The motive for the incident is not yet known.
Netshiunda says the suspect's court appearance will be confirmed in due course.
