Man charged for attempting to snatch girl at Roodepoort eatery
A man who allegedly attempted to snatch a 4-year-old girl at a restaurant in Roodepoort, west of Johannesburg, has been formally charged with attempted kidnapping and common assault.
Naseem Slamang made his first appearance in the Roodepoort Magistrate’s court on Friday.
In the video, two women are seen sitting at a table with a young girl when a man grabs the girl by her neck.
The man is then tackled by the restaurant owner and handed over to security.
"Naseem Slamang has been charged with assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, attempted kidnapping and common assault," says the spokesperson for the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) in Gauteng Phindi Mjonondwane.
He was remanded in custody and the case was postponed to Thursday.
