Man who threw acid on ex-girlfriend to appear in court
Updated | By Lonwabo Miso
A man accused of throwing acid over his ex-girlfriend was expected to appear in the Johannesburg Magistrate's Court on Wednesday.
The state alleges that Jan Pieterse tried to kill his ex-girlfriend, Ines Antonio, 22, by throwing acid over her outside her house in Sydenham on November 3. She sustained burns to her face and chest.
Their daughter, who was with Antonio at the time, sustained minor burns to her arms.
In his last appearance on January 21, Pieterse asked the court, through his lawyer, for an order that his photograph not be published.
But the court ruled that his photo could be published. The case was then postponed.
Henk Pretorius, for Pieterse, had told journalists outside the court that the case was postponed because a medical report and statement from Antonio were outstanding.
