Mandla Ndlovu sworn in as Mpumalanga premier

The ANC’s Mandla Ndlovu was sworn in as premier of Mpumalanga on Tuesday.

Last week, Ndlovu was elected unopposed during the first sitting of the provincial legislature since the May 29 general elections.
Speaking after his swearing-in ceremony, Ndlovu said that tackling crime is at the top of the agenda.
This comes after the killings of various political leaders in the province, such as ANC councillors Thabo Ngwenya, James Nkambule and Jimmy Mohlala.
“Working with the national government, we call for an increase in police visibility and a strengthening of crime intelligence, encouraging our course to tighten bail application requirements for repeat offenders.
“I will not hesitate to intervene within the prescripts of the law should it become clear that our people are not getting the services they deserve.”
Ndlovu also promised to launch a multi-million-rand skills development fund in an effort to curb youth unemployment.
“This fund will focus on supporting SMEs and also deal with skills development for the out-of-school youth. We will review all projects and programs that are geared towards youth development, including the premier’s Youth Development Fund and many others and see if they have the desired outcomes and impact on the ground.”
