Man’s body retrieved from Hartbeespoort Dam

The body of a man who drowned at Hartebeespoort Dam has been found.

The search for the 36-year-old began after witnesses alerted authorities that they saw someone fall out of his boat on Sunday afternoon.
“During ongoing search operations on Tuesday morning, police divers, assisted by National Sea Rescue Institute Hartbeespoort Dam, Hartbeespoort SRU (Strategic Rescue Unit), and Hartbeespoort Marine Law Enforcement, located and recovered the body of a local man who had gone missing after falling out of his boat on Hartbeespoort Dam late on Sunday afternoon,” NSRI spokesperson Craig Lambinon said.
“The body of the deceased man has been taken into the care of Police and Government Health Forensic Pathology Services. Police have opened an Inquest docket. Condolences are conveyed to family and friends of the deceased man,” he said.

Witnesses described seeing the boat turning in circles and may have run over the man before the boat ran aground, as the NSRI rescue craft was approaching.
Eagle Waters Resort, where the boat reportedly launched from, assisted with the search.
