March fuel prices a mixed bag

The Department of Mineral Resources and Energy has announced a mixed bag of fuel price adjustments for March.
Motorists will see slightly lower fuel prices for petrol and diesel in March after the Department of Energy announced fuel price decreases on Tuesday.
This is the first fuel price decrease since the start of the year.
On Wednesday, both grades of petrol will decrease by 58 to 72 cents per litre, diesel by between 83 to 85 cents per litre, and illuminating paraffin by R1,14 cents per litre.
Meanwhile, LP gas will drop by 79 cents per kilogram.
The department’s spokesperson, Robert Maake, says the decrease is due to lower oil prices and the stronger Rand against the US dollar.
"The shipping cost for LP gas was higher on average during the period under review. However, the slate levy remains unchanged at zero cents per litre in the price structures for both petrol and diesel."
He added that fuel price changes will differ in the 54 magisterial district zones.
"Minister Gwede Mantashe has approved the annual adjustment to the transport tariffs, which will range from zero cents per litre in Zone 1a to 7,5 cents per litre in Zone 14 c, which is in Motale in Limpopo.
"The Minister of Finance, Enoch Godongwana, announced that the carbon fuel levy will increase by 3 cents per litre effective from Wednesday. Therefore, the fuel levies will increase to R3,99 cents per litre and R3,87 cents per litre in the price structure of petrol and diesel, respectively."
