Mark Zinde to be sent back to Weskoppies
Updated | By Silindelo Masikane
Mark Zinde's lawyers will once again bring an application for his client to be reassessed at Weskoppies Psychiatric Hospital.
The 23-year-old is charged with murder and possession of drugs after he allegedly killed his mother at her Pecanwood Estate home outside Brits in June last year.
He was later charged with assault and attempted murder after allegedly attacking his father and stepmother while out on bail.
His mother's family as well as his father were in court, but Zinde seemed unaware of their presence or court proceedings, keeping his head down throughout.
Zinde had a sudden outburst, shouting profanities and rambling after his case was postponed in the High Court in Pretoria this morning.
His lawyer Francois Joubert says this outburst shows his client is unwell.
However, a psychiatric assessment conducted last year at Weskoppies revealed Zinde is fit to stand trial and capable of understanding court proceedings.
"He is a schizophrenic and he has these outbursts from time to time. We got a report from an independent doctor confirming that there is something wrong with Zinde," Joubert says.
Zinde will be back in court on Thursday.
