Mashatile: Govt taking water crisis seriously
Updated | By Cliff Shiko
Deputy President Paul Mashatile says the District Development Model will help resolve the country’s water crisis in the country.

Mashatile is heading up the water task team that was established to assist municipalities struggling with erratic water supply.
The deputy president answered questions in the National Council of Provinces on Thursday, the same day as delegates gathered in Midrand for the Water and Sanitation Indaba.
"What we've decided to do with the water task team is really to work through the District Development Model in ensuring that we intervene in all these areas to ensure that people receive not only enough water, but also good quality drinkable water for people to use,” Mashatile told MPs.
Mashatile said government will be monitoring all the interventions aimed at ending the water crisis.
"We are going to put strict timeframes to ensure that all these plans should be implemented by a particular date so that we can hold people accountable.
"So that's the serious manner in which we take this matter. People can't live without water.
"Water is a necessity, water is life. So we are going to ensure that these sustainable plans are monitored and to ensure that there's accountability, to ensure that they are implemented everywhere."
