Mashatile's collapse due to dehydration, not food poisoning – spokesperson

The Office of Deputy President on Sunday said Paul Mashatile’s collapse was caused by dehydration as a result of excessive heat, and not food poisoning.
The deputy president collapsed during his keynote address at N'wamitwa Day Celebrations in Tzaneen, Limpopo, on Saturday.
A day before the event in Limpopo, Mashatile spoke at the Tshwane University of Technology, where he claimed he to have suffered from "food poisoning".
However, Mashatile's acting spokesperson, Keith Khoza, told Jacaranda FM News on Sunday that the doctor who examined the deputy president never mentioned the issue of poisoning.
He added that the deputy president “is doing well”.
"We found that the reason he collapsed was dehydration as a result of extreme heat. The issue of food poisoning was never confirmed by the doctor, even though he said he felt like he had consumed poison.
"He is fine. He was thoroughly checked by the doctor, and he is back to his normal mood.”
