Matric pupils feeling the pressure ahead of final exams
Updated | By Slindelo Masikane
With less than 20 days to go until the final National Senior Certificate exams, matric pupils are feeling the pressure.
Gauteng education MEC Panyaza Lesufivisited several schools in Gauteng on Tuesday.
The schools offer a secondary school improvement programme which aims to assist learners in preparing for the exams.
The final matric exams begin on 23 October.
The provincial education department has invested R160 million into extra lessons for learners to ensure they are adequately prepared.
Lesufi says they are doing everything possible to alleviate the pressure on learners and is also pleading with them to ask for help if they need it.
"I got the report this morning that there are two learners who have already committed suicide around our districts, purely because the pressure is too much.
"We want to urge those learners who feel the pressure is too much to make contact with the NGOs we have entered into agreement with like ChildLine," he stresses.
Some of the matric learners taking part in the programme say they hope it will improve their marks.
