Maya accepts nomination for deputy chief justice post

Supreme Court of Appeal President Mandisa Maya is up for the judiciary's second top job.
This after Maya accepted a nomination by President Cyril Ramaphosa.
The Judicial Service Commission confirmed Maya's plans to vie for the job on Wednesday.
"Furthermore, on 3 May 2022 she submitted, the required JSC questionnaire and all the necessary and standard documentation required for persons who seek to be appointed as a Judge,” it said in a statement.
The commission is set to accept written submissions from the public until later this month.
Maya will then appear before the commission for a public interview set for June 20.
Earlier this year, Maya was one of four candidates interviewed for the Chief Justice position, going up against some tough competition in Constitutional Court Judge Mbuyiseli Madlanga, Gauteng Judge President Dunstan Mlambo and acting Chief Justice Raymond Zondo.
Following a controversial process, the JSC put Maya's name forward for the job.
But Ramaphosa appointed Zondo.
The process wasn't without flaws, with some concerns from various corners on the legitimacy of the interviews which descended into chaos on the final day on interviews.
