Mayibuye iAfrika set for first national convention this weekend

Mayibuye iAfrika will host the newly formed party’s inaugural national convention at the University of Johannesburg’s Soweto campus this weekend.
Speaking to the media in Soweto on Wednesday, party president Floyd Shivambu said the gathering represents a significant milestone in the organisation’s evolution.
He explained that the convention will provide a platform to deliberate on key policies, strategies, and programmes aimed at advancing the liberation agenda embraced by its members.
Mayibuye iAfrika was formed after Shivambu resigned from his position as secretary general of the uMkhonto weSizwe Party.
Shivambu previously claimed that his removal was due to a fake intelligence report claiming he wanted to overthrow party leader Jacob Zuma.
The upcoming convention, according to Shivambu, is expected to bring together representatives from all nine provinces, along with key stakeholders and various organisational structures, including youth, student, women’s, traditional, and religious sectors.
“These representatives will engage in robust discussions to chart the path towards total freedom and emancipation, addressing the critical issues affecting our communities and our nation,” Shivambu said.
He also highlighted that the party’s membership portal is now open, encouraging supporters to register and pay the required fees for participation in the national convention.
Shivambu said the money generated through these fees will be used for the hosting of the event.
