Mayor vows to increase patrols on Tshwane roads in wake of 5-year-old’s death

Tshwane Mayor Cilliers Brink has vowed to increase metro police visibility on the city's roads in the wake of the death of a child during a hijacking.
The five-year-old boy was shot dead on Friday night at their home in Soshanguve, north of Pretoria.
On Monday, Brink, together with the DA’s Gauteng premier candidate, Solly Msimanga, visited the bereaved family to offer condolences.
"I have had too many visits in Soshanguve, but this is by far the worst. It is important that we are here to pay our respects. The business of catching these people will only come in later.
"What we will do is to do everything in our power to look at the roads because it is our responsibility. It is the road where one picks up illegal gun-running. Whatever we can assist the family, and please let us know, and we will try to assist.
"The issue of safeguarding these streets it’s a matter of national necessity. Everyone is talking about Soshanguve and the crime rate here, but this senseless killing of a child in this way it must be a turning point."
No arrests have been made.
Police are investigating a case of murder and hijacking.
