Updated | By Jacaranda FM News
Former president Thabo Mbeki has called on the African National Congress (ANC) to emulate the principles which drove late human rights lawyer George Bizos.

Mbeki has paid tribute to Bizos, who died at the age of 92 on Wednesday.
Speaking to the SABC, Mbeki described Bizos’ death as a loss for all who knew and worked with him.
Turning to the situation in the ANC, Mbeki said many South Africans see the governing party as an example of the corruption it claims to be fighting.

"Because again President Ramaphosa, as the president of the ANC, has correctly pointed out that ANC itself in the eyes of many of our people is seen as the very exampler of corruption.
"And this is the governing party. When you have a governing party which is like that it means you can't reason crisis.
"Therefore what is important for many of us is to take that call of renewal of the ANC," Mbeki added.
He said the ANC should, during its process renewal, ensure that its members emulate the life and work of someone like Bizos.
"That only when the ANC is like that again it is only then it will be able to discharge its responsibilities to the people of South Africa.”
