MEC to visit FS farms following #fires
Free State Agriculture MEC, William Bulwane, will on Monday embark on an oversight visit to various farms in the province.
This, after veld fires, ravaged parts of the province this weekend. In an interview with OFM News, Bulwane said they noted losses incurred by farmers and the injuries that occurred with great concern.
His statements come after firefighters battled the whole weekend to contain fires that broke out on the busy N1 route between Winburg and Ventersburg as well as in the areas of Dewetsdorp, Thaba Nchu, and Ficksburg.
The Free State Umbrella Fire Protection Association has confirmed large agricultural land and property of the Aldam Resort and the Willem Pretorius Nature Reserve outside Ventersburg have been badly damaged, while vehicles and livestock in other parts of the province were destroyed in the blaze.
The association is meanwhile appealing to people to be very vigilant and cautious as the peak of the fire season has commenced.
"The next few weeks will still produce extremely dangerous wildfire conditions. People must be cautious, and aware that veld fires are not just farmers’ problems, veld fires are extremely dangerous and impacts everybody," highlighted the association's Johann Breytenbach.
