Media must protect identities of prosecutors - Kubayi

Justice Minister Mamoloko Kubayi has urged the media to protect the identities of prosecutors handling high-profile cases.
Kubabyi’s remarks come after state prosecutor Tracy Brown was gunned down in front of her home in Gqeberha last week.
Speaking at Brown’s memorial service in Gqeberha on Thursday, Kubayi urged the media not to show the faces of prosecutors.
“These are some of the things we should look at when we process a guideline that protects our prosecutors meaningfully. So that we don't come and meet when we have lost our warriors,” she said.
Brown’s assassination is believed to be linked to her recent work on cases looking into government corruption.
“But more importantly, let this be a wake-up call to the policing services that we need to strengthen the protection of the prosecutors. This is the third prosecutor we have lost in this province in less than six months,” Kubayi told mourners.
“All of us in the security cluster should be concerned about this development. The lives of prosecutors are endangered by the type of work they do,” the minister said, warning that prosecutors cannot perform their duty without the necessary protection.
