Meeting set between Treasury and Joburg, says Morero
Updated | By Emile Pienaar
Johannesburg Mayor Dada Morero has confirmed that he has a meeting scheduled with National Treasury and the Minister of Finance, Enoch Gondongwana.
This comes after he received a letter from the National Treasury the previous Friday titled: "Transgressions of the budget laws and associated regulatory instruments by the City of Johannesburg Metropolitan Municipality."
In the letter, Godongwana revealed that the metro owes creditors R25 billion while holding only R4 billion in cash, leaving a shortfall of more than R21 billion.

Godongwana warned that Treasury would withhold funding to the city if the metro's finances are not sorted out.
Another bone of contention is a R10.3 billion wage agreement, which the city reached with the South African Municipal Workers Union (SAMWU), which Godongwana alleged was signed illegally.
