A North West man has been arrested after his two-year-old daughter was found stabbed to death at home.
The incident played out in the early hours of Monday morning at a Bleskop Mine Club residences outside Rustenburg.
Provincial police spokesperson Sabata Mokgwabone says the man claimed there was an intruder in the house before commotion broke out.
“It is alleged that the suspect woke up in the morning and screamed that there were people attacking them. Upon asking questions, the distressed wife was allegedly assaulted.
“As a result, she fled from the house together with their six-year-old boy while the suspect locked himself inside the house with the two-year-old girl before damaging household goods.”
A police negotiator was called to the scene to try and diffuse the situation.
“Police, together with a negotiator, were summoned to the scene but the violent suspect did not cooperate. The apparent mentally unstable suspect was ultimately arrested by the members of Tactical Response Team who handed him over to paramedics for sedation.”

The organisation claims only a handful of the 19 000 prisoners, who were due to be released following President Cyril Ramaphosa's announcement in May, have actually been set free. It believes the delay amounts to a violation of human rights.
The girl’s body was later found in the house with multiple stab wounds.
“The suspect is currently under police guard at Job Shimankana Tabane Hospital where he has been admitted.”
The suspect is expected to appear at the Rustenburg Magistrate’s Court soon on a charge of murder.
