Mercedes-Benz recalls over 100 vehicles due to steering issues
Updated | By Cliff Shiko
The National Consumer Commission (NCC) has confirmed the recall of 102 Mercedes-Benz vehicles.
The recall affects four EQE-295 and 98 GLC-254 models, and is due to an issue with the bolting of the steering wheel and rack.
The vehicles were manufactured between 2022 and 2025.
According to Mercedes-Benz, the mechanical connection between the steering wheel and steering rack might loosen over time, leading to a loss of the vehicle's steerability and increasing the risk of an accident.
"Consumers of the affected vehicles are advised to contact any Mercedes-Benz authorised dealership for a check and a replacement or repair of the affected component," said NCC spokesperson Phetho Ntaba
"Consumers are reminded that product recalls are crucial for safety; thus, it is essential for them to act swiftly."
In April this year, Mercedes-Benz recalled 54 GLE 167 models over a high-voltage starter generator.
This is the latest recall by an automotive company in the country, in recent months, following a string of recalls affecting popular car brands, including Ford, BMW, Volkswagen, Volvo, and Stellantis (Jeep, Chrysler)
