Mini ‘did not tolerate mediocrity’
Updated | By Gaopalelwe Phalaetsile
The Council for Medical Schemes (CMS) chairperson Dr Clarence Mini has been remembered as a great leader with impeccable integrity.
A memorial service was held for Mini on Friday following his death from a coronavirus-related illness.
"Dr. Mini leaves CMS as an operationally sound organisation that currently in the past year has achieved more than 90% of its set objectives and targets,” said CMS chief executive Dr Sipho Kabane.
“We are looking forward to the audit that is coming because we will perform well, that is out of the legacy that he has left.”

President Cyril Ramaphosa also sent though a tribute, which was read at the memorial service, in which he lauded Mini as someone who devoted himself to democratising healthcare and fighting for the rights of those living with HIV.
The President of the African National Congress (ANC) Veterans League Snuki Zikalala hailed Mini’s commitment to the governing party.
"Like a committed cadre of the movement, comrade Biza was concerned about how the ANC lost the confidence of society and how we veered off track. He did not tolerate mediocrity and took action against those who were involved in corrupt activities."
