Minimal change to petrol, but diesel up
Updated | By ANA
The pump price of 93 octane petrol will decrease slightly while that of 95 octane will increase by less than 5c/l with effect from October 7, the energy department said on Friday.
The wholesale price of both grades of diesel, the maximum retail price of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), and the price of illuminating paraffin would also increase, the department said in a statement.
“The main reasons for this fuel price adjustment is the weakening of the rand against the US dollar, which had a negative impact on the fuel prices of about 30c/l, and [the] slight increase in the price of crude oil, (on average) in September, compared to August.
“In other words, if the rand had stayed at the same level, on average, against the US dollar as it was [in] August, the prices of petrol would be decreasing by 25-30c/l and diesel would be increasing by 20c/l next month (October 2015),” the department said.
Based on current local and international factors, 93 octane petrol would drop by by 2c/l, 95 octane would increase by 4c/l, diesel (0.05 percent sulphur) would increase by 53c/l, diesel (0.005 pertcent sulphur) would increase by 51c/l, illuminating paraffin (SMNRP) would increase by 67c/l, illuminating paraffin (wholesale) would increase by 50c/l, and LPG would increase by 11c/kg. - ANA
