Minnie Dlamini commits to repaying R50,000 in NLC funds linked to Rio Olympic Games roadshow

Media personality Minnie Dlamini has reached a settlement with the Special Investigating Unit (SIU) to repay funds she unlawfully received from the National Lotteries Commission (NLC) in 2016 as part of an ongoing investigation.
Dlamini was among the beneficiaries who received funds through the Mshandukani Foundation NPO.
The investigation into the NLC was authorised by President Cyril Ramaphosa through Proclamation R32 of 2020 and focuses on maladministration and the unlawful appropriation of funds between January 2014 and November 2020.
“Ms. Dlamini has agreed to repay the full amount of R50,000.00 she received in 2016 from the Mshandukani Foundation NPO,” says SIU spokesperson Kaizer Kganyago.
In terms of the settlement, the payment formed part of NLC grant funding allocated for the 2016 Rio Olympic Games Roadshow. However, the funds were not used for their intended purpose.
The SIU’s investigation found that the Mshandukani Foundation NPO, acting as a conduit applicant through the South African Sports Confederation and Olympic Committee (SASCOC), received approximately R24.8 million from the NLC.
“These funds were subsequently distributed to several beneficiaries, including Ms. Dlamini, without lawful justification or in contravention of the grant agreement.”
According to the SIU, Dlamini fully cooperated with the investigation and acknowledged that the funds were not lawfully due to her.
