Minors nabbed for CTN train fires
The Department of Transport is investigating the possibility of the involvement of more suspects in the arson attacks on Metrorail trains.
Two minors were arrested for the arson attack of Metrorail trains in the Mother City in November.
The pair, aged 14 and 15-years-old were arrested on Monday after one of them was recognised in the identikit released by Metrorail.
The Passenger Rail Agency of South Africa (Prasa) had previously offered a R100 000 reward to anyone with information that could lead to the arrest of the suspects wanted for the malicious damage to property.
A total of 18 carriages were gutted, damage which cost the state R643 million.
In total 213 coaches have been lost due to arson in Cape Town over the past five years.
The department's spokesperson Ayanda Allie-Paine says while investigations into the motive of the attack continue, the possibility that the minors were acting on the instruction of adults has not been ruled out.
