The conference re-elected Kebby Maphatsoe as the MKMVA president.

The council briefed the media at Liliesleaf farm in Rivonia on Monday.

"Some of the leadership of the MKMVA decided to forge ahead with a divisive conference that was held in June. Irrespective of this, we continued to make preparations for an all-inclusive conference," said General Siphiwe Nyanda.

A member of the MKMVA's national working committee, Ike Moroe, said they have evidence of wrongdoing at the June conference.

"We have in our possession information we have shared with the Minister of Defence and Military Veterans (Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula) and the secretary general of the ANC (Gwede Mantashe) which shows that conference was fraudulent. 60% of the people who attended that conference are not bona fide military veterans," said Moroe.

Nyanda said they will hold an all-inclusive conference in October to discuss issues around unity and factionalism.

"The all-inclusive conference of all former MK combatants which was to be held at the Nasrec in September, will now be held in October. The two day conference that will be attended by about 1800 delegates and guests is part of a consultative process facilitated by the ANC NEC to bring together all groupings associated the Umkhonto we Sizwe to foster unity," says Nyanda.

He says the conference will also look at how to strengthen the ANC based on the policies discussed at its recent conference.
