Mkhwebane to drag Solly Mapaila to court over ‘hired gun’ remarks
Updated | By Neo Motloung
Public Protector Busisiwe Mkhwebane is preparing to take legal action against South African Communist Party (SACP) deputy general-secretary Solly Mapaila.

This comes after Mapaila accused Mkhwebane of being a hired gun used by other to target politicians.
Mkhwebane says her office wrote to Mapaila asking him to withdraw the statement but he refused as he doesn’t believe his statement to be incorrect.
“We have a legal opinion now. We are taking the matter now, we are proceeding with it,” says Mkhwebane.

Mapaila also accused Mkhwebane of used by “rogue elements of the intelligence".
Mapaila made the remarks during his address at the National Education, Health and Allied Workers' Union (Nehawu) policy conference held in Boksburg earlier this year.
Mkhwebane says she will be taking legal action against Mapaila as the public protector and not in her person capacity.
She was speaking on the sidelines of the 7th Annual Spring Law Conference organised by the University of South Africa (UNISA) on Tuesday.
