MKP to open criminal complaints against De Haas, O’Sullivan

The uMkhonto weSizwe Party will lay criminal complaints with the police in Cape Town on Wednesday against Parliamentary ad hoc committee witness Mary de Haas and forensic investigator Paul O’Sullivan.
The party accused De Haas of misrepresenting her academic credentials before Parliament earlier this month.

MKP says the misrepresentation constitutes a violation of the Powers, Privileges and Immunities Act.
"She claims to possess an earned doctoral qualification, which she does not. Ms de Haas has since admitted that her highest completed qualification is a master's degree, and that the “doctorate” she referred to is merely honorary,” the party said on Tuesday.
The second complaint is against Paul O’Sullivan, for allegedly threatening another witness, Police Minister Senzo Mchunu’s Chief of Staff Cedric Nkabinde, during an official sitting of the ad hoc committee.
"This conduct appears to contravene provisions of the Constitution, the Powers and Privileges Act, and the Intimidation Act, and may amount to criminal intimidation and obstruction of parliamentary processes,” MKP said.
It will open the cases separately “to safeguard the integrity of oversight proceedings and the protection of witnesses”.
The committee is investigating allegations of political interference in the criminal justice system made by KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi.
