Mnangagwa must stop harassing opposition - Zimbabwe Communist Party
Updated | By JacarandaFM News
The Zimbabwe Communist Party has demanded the release of activists and journalists arrested during a crackdown.
Zimbabwe’s military and police are arresting scores of opposition members and activists after authorities thwarted an anti-government protest last week.
More than 20 people have been arrested since last week when authorities thwarted anti-government protests that had been scheduled for last Friday.
The protests had been called by opposition politician Jacob Ngarivhume, head of a small party called Transform Zimbabwe, against alleged state corruption and the country's slumping economy.
Police banned the protests and government described them as an "insurrection".
The crackdown has sparked international outrage with #ZimbabeansLivesMatter being created in solidarity.

"We welcome the solidarity that is being offered to the people of Zimbabwe. We have seen organisations that have came out to issue solidarity,” the ZCP's Ngqabutho Mabhena told the media on Tuesday.
"We have seen the Zimbabweans now trending. We welcome all these initiatives. They put pressure on the regime of Zimbabwe.”
Mabhena says the current administration should stop harassing the opposition.
"The administration of Emmerson (Mnangagwa) should stop harassing people, arresting journalists, political activists and visiting people's homes in the middle of the night.
"The people have a right as entrenched in the constitution to demonstrate whenever they feel the government is not implementing its election manifesto."
Mabhena says the party will not allow compensation to be paid to white farmers who lost land under the regime of Robert Mugabe, saying that the improvements were made by exploited workers.
"The signing of this agreement is a betrayal of the many sons and daughters of the soil who paid the ultimate price for independence.
"The dubious former liberation movement has become has now become the stooge of imperialist forces.
"The party will do its utmost to prevent this from happening - that is the compensation.”
