Moerane Commission: Gwala questions police competency
Updated | By Steve Bhengu
The IFP's Blessed Gwala has accused police of being party to some political killings in the province.
Gwala is testifying before the Moerane Commission of Inquiry in Durban.
Gwala has also questioned the competency of police officers.
He made reference to a murder case in 2012 where IFP member, Siya Dlamini was gunned down outside the Ntuzuma Magistrate's Court in full view of the media and TV cameras.
"One member of the party was shot in broad daylight, in the precinct of the court. There were police, there were media personnel and the person was apprehended and taken. There was a gun in his hand but that case died a natural death. What we were told is that, because the SABC did not give them a video tape of what happened," he says.
Yesterday at the inquiry, the widow of a KZN councillor, Mbhekiseni Khumalo, killed outside his Pongola home broke down when sharing details of his death.
