Mogoeng: Stop commercialising religion
Updated | By Nokukhanya N Mntambo
Chief Justice Mogoeng Mogoeng says there’s no place for xenophobia in a continent where the beliefs are rooted in the principle of ubuntu, like Africa.
Mogoeng hosted an Africa Day prayer session on Monday to celebrate and acknowledge the successes of the Organisation of African Unity (OAU).
The day marks 57 years since the leaders of 32 independent African nations met in Addis Ababa to establish the OAU, the precursor to the African Union.
Mogoeng says unity must be the order of the day.
“It is time to practicalise unity in our homes, in our communities, in our respective countries but more importantly in the continent of Africa. We need genuine unity, we need genuine love.”
He adds: “Fall in love from the depth of your heart with the continent of Africa. Love Africa and I dare say, marry Africa.”
Ramaphosa: On Africa Day, the continent is united in its battle against Covid-19
Dear Fellow South African, Today marks 57 years since the leaders of 32 independent African nations met in Addis Ababa to establish the Organisation of African Unity (OAU), the precursor to the African Union. The preamble of the OAU charter is a rousing call to unity, cross-cultural understanding and solidarity.
Mogoeng says churches have an important role to play in building a unified continent but slammed those trading within churches for profit.
“Let us stop commercialising the gospel of God,” says Mogoeng.
“Let us stop trading in the temple of the Lord.”
