Mom of Eldorado Park girl (4) to face charge of murder
Updated | By Selaki Ledwaba
The mother of the four-year-old Eldorado Park Girl, who was allegedly beaten to death by her father, will face additional charges when she appears in court again.
On Monday, the couple appeared before the Protea Magistrate's Court for a formal bail application, which they have since abandoned.
The father is facing charges of murder, rape, compelled rape, child abuse, and assault.
Murder and child abuse were added to the mother’s charge sheet on Monday.
The charges were added after an investigation by the National Prosecuting Authority found that the mother opened a case against the father after he assaulted and broke the arm of their other two-year-old child in March.
The docket was closed after the mother decided to withdraw the charges.
The NPA will use this as evidence during the trial.
Both parents were arrested on 6 August after a video, in which the child can be heard screaming during an alleged assault by the parents, went viral.
The child died from severe head trauma on the day of the parents’ arrest.
The matter was postponed to 9 October for further investigations.
