Spokesperson Sputnik Ratau says the department is on track with its plans to provide under-resourced communities with water.

“As per the directive of Minister Lindiwe Sisulu, the Department of Water and Sanitation continues to deliver the necessary water tanks and water tankers for the good of South Africans in the fight against Covid-19.”

Last week Rand Water was appointed to coordinate all the water entities and a National Command Centre was established to ensure efficient water distribution.

During his visit to the centre on Tuesday, President Cyril Ramaphosa expressed his satisfaction with the manner in which the department has swiftly moved in addressing water scarcity across the country.

Ratau adds: “Minister Sisulu has appealed to community members to protect water infrastructure provided to them. She further urged citizens to wash their hands regularly with soap to reduce the spread of coronavirus.”
