A North West mother, who allegedly put her new-born baby in boiling water, appeared in the Brits Magistrates' Court on Friday.
The 29-year-old woman is facing a charge of murder.
Police say the woman gave birth to the baby at her home near Hartbeesportdam on Friday.
“It is alleged that the suspect placed the newborn baby in boiling water, then wrapped the baby in plastic and buried the newborn in a shallow grave at a nearby field,” says the police’s Amanda Funani.
The mother later confided in a friend, who alerted the police.
Police then found the body of the baby buried in a shallow grave.
The woman was arrested and charged with murder.
The mother appeared in court on Friday and abandoned her bail application.
She will appear in the same court on 14 May.
