Motorists paying more for fuel, as inflation quickens slightly
Motorists are paying more for fuel than they would have over a year ago.
Data released by the Stats SA on Wednesday show that motorists were on average paying 2.3% more for fuel compared to March 2020.
The price of fuel for April, reached a record high when it increased by a whopping R1 a litre while diesel increased by between 63 and 65 cents.

“This is the first time in 12 months that fuel prices have increased on an annual basis. In other words, for the first time in a year, motorists are paying more for fuel than they were 12 months before,” says Chief Director for Price Statistics Patrick Kelly.
Meanwhile, headline consumer inflation quickened from 2.9% in February to 3.2% in March.
The slight increase means inflation is still within the South African Reserve Bank’s target range of 3–6%.
