Mpumalanga driver to be charged with culpable homicide

A driver who was involved in a crash on the R573 which claimed nine lives has been charged with culpable homicide.
On Saturday, nine people died on the road between Kwaggafontein and Moteti in Mpumalanga when the car they were travelling in overturned early in the morning.
Traffic spokesperson Moeti Mmusi says the suspect will appear in the Mkobola Magistrate’s Court on Monday.

“The driver of the light delivery vehicle that was involved in the R573 crash that claimed nine lives is expected to appear in Mkobola Magistrates court in Kwaggafontein after he was arrested on Saturday. He is being charged with reckless and negligent driving, culpable homicide among others. He is also expected to apply for bail.”
Seven people died on the scene when the vehicle overturned, while one other succumbed to their injuries while being transported to hospital.
The ninth person died in hospital.
Eighteen others were also seriously injured.
