The three injured are recovering in hospital.

Mpumalanga police spokesperson Leonard Hlathi says the exact cause of the crash still needs to be determined.

“We are investigating a case of seven counts of culpable homicide after a bakkie plunged on a group of people.

“What we have gathered yesterday preliminary is that the bakkie came, according to information, at a high speed and plunged into those people.”

“We are cautioning motorists, all the roads that we are using are belonging to every one of us, including pedestrians."

Mathabane is expected to make his second appearance in the Secunda Magistrate’s Court on January 27.
