Stellantis South Africa has recalled 323 Jeep Wrangler vehicles sold nationally between 2016 and 2018.

According to the company, dust accumulation inside the clockspring component may compromise the airbag circuit. This defect can cause the airbag warning light to illuminate and may result in the driver’s airbag failing to deploy in the event of a collision.

The Jeep Wrangler model affected by the recall has since been discontinued.

In a separate recall, Kia South Africa has advised the NCC that 18,600 vehicles require corrective action. The affected models include the Kia Sportage (SL and KM), Sorento (XM), Optima (TF), Cerato (TD), and Soul (AM). These vehicles were sold nationally between 2009 and 2015 through Kia-approved dealerships.

According to Kia South Africa, the recall relates to an issue requiring the replacement of the anti-lock braking system (ABS) fuse. The defect may cause the ABS system to malfunction, potentially increasing the vehicle’s stopping distance.

In some cases, the defect may also result in damage within the engine bay.

The NCC has urged affected consumers to arrange inspections and repairs at authorised dealerships as soon as possible. The commission said all repairs related to the recalls will be conducted at no cost to consumers.

Product recalls in South Africa are governed by the Consumer Protection Act, which requires suppliers to notify the NCC and the public when goods pose a safety risk. The NCC is responsible for overseeing recall processes and ensuring that suppliers take corrective action to protect consumers.

Consumers who are unsure whether their vehicles are affected are advised to contact authorised dealerships or the manufacturers directly to confirm recall details and schedule the necessary repairs.
