NCC to brief media on Kuga fires
Updated | By Slindelo Masikane
The National Consumer Commission will brief the media over several instances where Ford Kuga SUV's burst into flames this afternoon.
More than 40 Ford Kugas have caught alight countrywide with mounting pressure from consumers for the company to recall the vehicles.
Ford released a statement in December last year after a Kuga 1.6 EcoBoost SUV caught fire.
It notified owners that it was investigating reports of engine fires in that model and asked owners to take their vehicle to their dealer for a maintenance check.
The company suspected that it may be due to the vehicle's engine overheating but said it was still investigating.
In 2015, 33-year-old Reshall Jimmy died when his Ford Kuga caught fire whilst on holiday.
His family wants Ford to take responsibility for his death.
