Nehawu to appeal interdict against NHLS strike
The National Education, Health and Allied Workers’ Union (Nehawu) has lodged an appeal after the National Health Laboratories Service (NHLS) obtain an interdict against its strike.
On Monday, the Labour Court in Johannesburg halted plans by the union to picket outside the National Health Laboratory Service.
Workers affiliated to Nehawu are unhappy with the government’s refusal to increase public servants’ salaries and a failure to offer adequate personal protective equipment (PPE).
The union’s spokesperson Khaya Xaba says the union believes the judgment to halt their picket has no merits.
“We view this as nothing but an attempt to disregard our right to strike and an assault on collective bargaining.
“As Nehawu, we shall not allow our constitutional rights and hard-won gains to be trampled on. The voice of workers shall never be silenced and the underhand tactics by NHLS has only managed to infuriate workers even more.”
He says
the union will continue with lunchtime pickets while waiting for the court
processes to be completed.
