Nehawu demands improved working conditions at Gauteng hospitals, clinics
Members of the National Education Health and Allied Workers Union (Nehawu) have called on the Gauteng Department of Health to address the issues affecting health workers in the province.
The workers marched to the offices of the provincial Health Department in Johannesburg on Friday to deliver a memorandum of demands.
The trade union, affiliated to federation Cosatu, wants the renovation of all dilapidated health facilities to improve the working conditions of their members.
They have also called on the department to immediately reinstate 34 cleaners who were dismissed at the Charlotte Maxeke Hospital.
Nehawu said they want all outsourced workers contracted to the department to be insourced.
Speaking to Jacaranda FM Newswatch, Nehawu Gauteng Secretary Mzikayise Tshontshi said they want the MEC to also address staff shortages at clinics and hospitals.

"The department is not employing critical staff, doctors, nurses and cleaners. They say they don't have money, while money is being wasted on irrelevant things."
"They must make sure that they fill all the vacant posts and adequately staff clinics and hospitals. Workers are dying from burn out because they are being overworked."
