Nehawu to discuss revised mortuary offer with members

The Gauteng health department says negotiations to end the go-slow by forensic pathology assistants at some mortuaries in the province are at an advanced stage.
The met with representatives of the workers to discuss the improvement of conditions of service that has led to the go-slow and a backlog in post-mortems.
The National Health and Allied Workers Union (Nehawu) says they will present the latest offer by the department to their members on Friday.
Nehawu spokesperson Khaya Xaba says their members are willing to work.
"It is not like workers are not willing to work but the department is reluctant to pay our members," Xaba says.
The MEC for Health in Gauteng, Gwen Ramakgopa has meanwhile expressed condolences to the families who have been affected by the strike at state mortuaries.
"We greatly regret the inconvenience and suffering they have endured because of the work-to-rule action, that caused delays in releasing the remains of their loved ones," she says.
Ramakgopa also appeals to the assistants to suspend their work-to-rule action and serve the public.
